The Folkaltones Sample Press Release #1

The Folkaltones: nationally renowned folksinger Carla Sciaky with friends and colleagues Miriam Rosenblum and Hal Aqua, return to the stage on (date)______________, at (time)__________, at (venue)_________________________________, (address)___________________________________, in (town or city)_____________.

This is the trio’s third year together, and fans can look forward to another tasty selection of harmonies and textures. Their repertoire of visionary music spans a refreshing spectrum from Carla’s critically acclaimed originals to Irish jigs, with Beatles songs, selections from other contemporary songwriters, and traditional British ballads and instrumentals along the way.

Instrumentation includes Hal on guitar, mandolin, and Irish bouzouki; Carla on guitar, violin, and English concertina; and Miriam on clarinet, an assortment of recorders and Irish whistles, and button accordion. The trio weaves together songs and tunes in medleys and suites that take the listener on sensory and emotional journeys.

Carla Sciaky has been a fixture in the Colorado folk music scene since her debut recording in 1982, her 12-year tenure with the beloved Mother Folkers, and decades of solo work across the country, with a discography that includes eight solo albums, guest appearances on countless others, and her originals being covered by a variety of national acts. The New York Times praised “her guileless soprano register(ing) superbly” and the Boston Globe commented on her “dash of good humor and startling soprano, as fine and fragile as glass.” She and Miriam can be found in the Renaissance music community as members of the American Recorder Society, and both have been on the faculty at Swallow Hill Music School for several years. Together, they play with Hal Aqua in the eight-piece Jewish fusion band Los Lantzmun, of whom Keith Arnold of the Interfaith Alliance of Colorado says, “Your driving spirit and beautiful combination of instruments is a great gift.” Hal can also sometimes be found in the company of wacky kids’ performer Cowboy Hersh, and his artwork and graphics grace the covers of most of Carla’s recordings.
